Passing of K-9 "Major"

It is with great sadness that Sheriff Dan Loughrie announces the death of his K9 Major, who was diagnosed with cancer after becoming ill five weeks ago.  Major, who was 5 years old,passed away in his sleep Friday, November 11, 2016.  Sheriff Loughrie brought Major into the Preston County Sheriff's Office shortly after taking office.  Major was trained and certified in search and rescue, and drug searches, including home confinement sweeps.  During his time with the county, Major was a guest at many crime watch and community and civic meetings giving demonstrations of his abilities.  Major will be sorely missed by the Sheriff and his family and the Preston County Sheriff's Office, as well as the many people who enjoyed his visits.
