Scam Alert

There’s another phone scam going around in the Preston County area. The caller states they are “Deputy Hall” from the Preston County Sheriff’s Office. They give the possible victim enough personal information to make them believe their identity, so they will agree to talk to them. “Deputy Hall” then tells them they have a Summons to serve on the victim. One person has stated this scammer gave them citation numbers and told them they failed to show for jury duty, and wanted to meet with them to serve the citations, and asked them to make sure they have a mobile phone.

The Preston County Sheriff’s Office does not have a “Deputy Hall” in our employment. Unfortunately, as with most scams, the numbers are virtually untraceable. The number this person is calling from is not a valid Preston County Sheriff’s Office number.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO MAKE CONTACT WITH THIS PERSON. More than likely, they will try to get you to meet at a business that sends money orders or gift cards, and instead of meeting with the victim, will have them send money, or give them the number off the gift cards to “take care” of the citations.
